a software survey plz give ur opinion? What tools were used to build mammoth bone houses?
Feb 07

The demonstrators/classes want you to buy literally hundreds of dollars of tools. Is all that necessary to start? I’m just getting into it and as of right now I’m just looking to do cards and other easy projects. Can someone please tell me what I really need to get started so I don’t get overwhelmed?

Gosh no. you can get everything to start with for about $30.

This is called wet embossing. I have dry embossed too.

    First off
a pigment ink pad. (the other kind is called dye ink pad, this will not work with embossing)

Versa mark (Versacolor, VersaMagic) is my favorite. You can also use Color Box. These run about $7.00.

Then you will need embossing powder.
Each pot of embossing powder will run about $4.00

Then you will need a heating gun (do not use a hair dryer) Maybe about $20.00. Look for sales. And you can buy one with a coupon at Michael’s and JoAnn fabrics.

    and of course rubber stamps.

I wait for a 50% off sale at Hobby Lobby to buy mine. I also love Stampn’ Up stamps sets.

Ink your rubber stamp and stamp your imagine. Immediately pour the embossing powder on it. Use a lot. Tap off all excess powder (and put back in jar)
Hold paper with tweezers and use heating gun to melt the powder. Be careful to not to over heat. You can see it turn shiny.

    Not to confuse you …

You can stamp with color pigment ink and use clear embossing powder.
    or
You can stamp with Versamark clear and use colored embossing powder.

My advise is try before you spend – just in case it is not for you.
You can use virtually anything for a stamp from shop bought to using vegetables. Potatoes make good stamps. Try experimenting with other sorts like the cut off piece of a cabbage – excellent rose like stamp effect.
If you mean embossing the stamp image (powder) then you will have to buy the proper stuff and a heat gun.
Ink pads – start off with a black one. Stamps can be coloured with water based colouring pens. Wipe them off when finished with a baby wipe. Build up your stock gradually.
