What are the tools and materials used for, what are they made of, and why?

What tools do they use and please list their names. And what they do? Study tree rings or what else? Please help me, it’s my science project.

To identify a plant, many literatures and key are available, by which an unknown plant can be identified. This is done on the basis of characters of a plant. But, I am looking for the online software for identification and systamatics for plant specially for the cyanobacteria or blue-green algae in particular and microorganins in general.
